LOS COLORES DE LA LUZ
WHAT ARE THE COLORS OF WHITE LIGHT? ARE RED LIGHTS ONLY MADE UP OF RED? BUILD A SPECTROSCOPE FROM A CARDBOARD TUBE AND AN OLD CD AND STUDY THE COLORS IN THE LIGHTS AROUND YOU.
MATERIALS (Details in Teacher Notes linked below)
Activity 1 – Make a Rainbow
- Flashlight – the old fashioned kind with a single incandescent bulb or a single LED bulb
- Recordable CD with coating removed
Activity 2 – Making Waves
- Rope or Slinky® (spring) toy
- Meter stick
Activity 3 – Make a Spectroscope
- Cardboard tube 15-20 cm long (like a toilet paper tube)
- Piece of a recordable CD with the label removed (see Teacher Notes)
- Square of aluminum foil, Craft knife or pencil to make a slit or hole in the foil, Tape, Rubber band
Activities 4-5 – Studying Spectra
- Same as Activity 3 plus assorted sources of light.
